Today, Team USA announced the players who will be attending training camp in Las Vegas this month to compete for a final roster spot on the FIBA World Cup team, with competition set to begin on August 3rd.

The 19 players who have been invited are: Bradley Beal, DeMarcus Cousins, Steph Curry, Anthony Davis, DeMar DeRozan, Andre Drummond, Kevin Durant, Kenneth Faried, Paul George, Blake Griffin, James Harden, Gordon Hayward, Kyrie Irving, Kyle Korver, Damian Lillard, Kevin Love, Chandler Parsons, Derrick Rose and Klay Thompson.

At first glance, it appears this will be a team led by Durant, Griffin and Davis. The New Orleans center seems primed for a break out performance at the World Cup. There’s a lot of shooters on this team, namely someone like Korver specifically selected because he does that one thing so well.

As with any of these player selections, there will always be omissions. One that stands out is John Wall, although the point guard crop is so strong it’s not as much a slight as it is a commentary on the strength of the point guard position. An interesting subplot will be the health of Rose and whether there will be encouraging signs to take from the international competition experience.
