San Antonio Spurs guard and newly crowned NBA champion Manu Ginobili has suffered a stress fracture in his right leg, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports. Although it’s the offseason for the NBA, there are implications for FIBA. He’s unlikely to play in the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain this summer, where he would represent Argentina. The 36 year old was diagnosed with the injury during his exit physical with the Spurs.
This isn’t the first thing to go wrong with the Spurs this offseason, or in the past 24 hours. This morning it was revealed that guard Patty Mills will be out for 7 months because of a torn rotator cuff that was diagnosed during his exit physical.
Gregg Popovich is famous for limiting his players minutes, so it’s quite strange that all these injuries are coming out of nowhere. Ginobili only played 22.8 minutes per game this season, which was only increased to 25.5 in the playoffs. At 36 years old, the Spurs should be praying that Ginobili can make a full recovery.
