When Lance Stephenson blew in LeBron James’s ear during the Eastern Conference Finals, he never thought the act would send the Internet ablaze with hundreds of different memes and cropped-out pictures showing him whistling into the wind.
But in his formal introduction to the Charlotte Hornets on Friday, “Born Ready” says he’s more than just the guy who blew in King James’s ear and he does not want the act to single-handedly define him.
“I feel like it overshadowed my play on the court,” Stephenson told the Associated Press. “I bring more to the table than just blowing in someone’s ear. I’m a great player.”
Stephenson, who officially signed a three-year, $27 million deal with the Hornets on Friday, can look to build on a breakout 2013-14 season, in which he averaged career-highs in points (13.8), rebounds (7.2), and assists (4.6), by making the All-Star team this season.
While Stephenson, 23, is ready to move on from the ear blowing incident, there’s a good chance that the Internet isn’t. That includes us.
Let’s look back to the ESPYs earlier this week, when Stephenson, with an assist from Drake, blew into Paul George’s ear.
