The Nets Are Retiring The BrooklyKnight Mascot

According to a report, the Brooklyn Nets have decided to retire the BrooklyKnight mascot starting next season. The mascot never really seemed to bond with fans because, well, no one was really sure what it was in the first place.

The mascot was like a part Marvel superhero character, part imitation Batman, part intimidating costume. Add it all together, and you get a bunch of photos with kids who look very afraid and a mascot without a connection to the team.

The New Orleans Pelicans gave Pierre The Pelican a makeover mid-season last year, and now comes news that BrooklyKnight is likely no more. It’s getting hard out here for mascots.

But before we bid farewell, let’s remember this wonderful BrooklyKnight comic that was produced by Marvel for opening night at Barclays. It’s a treasure because it includes Amar’e Stoudemire as a member of the Brooklyn Nets.

No word on whether BrooklyKnight will resurface in Milwaukee with an executive role in the front office. But we’re not holding our breaths.
