Miami Heat frontcourt stalwart Udonis Haslem has reportedly opted out of the $4.6 million player option in his contract. It had been expected that the 34 year-old veteran, whose role had declined dramatically in the past season, would opt in to the final year of his deal to lock in his future in the city.
But in the wake of opt outs by teammates Chris Andersen and LeBron James it’s being speculated that their decisions are tied into a plan to free up money so that the Heat front office can add roster pieces to help the team contend for a championship again.
As mentioned here previously, once Wade & Bosh opt out, expect Haslem to take 3 years for $8-9M to clear another $1.5-1.9M in space.
